CITY OF PEWAUKEE
Common Council AGENDA ITEM 4.

DATE: November  20, 2017

DEPARTMENT: IT

PROVIDED BY:Bobby Kewan, IT Director

SUBJECT:

Discussion and Possible Action Regarding Replacement of the Backup Air Conditioning Unit in the Server Room at City Hall [Kewan].

BACKGROUND:

The server room backup air conditioning unit has failed.  This unit, which is 10 years old, is used if the primary air conditioning unit is down for repair.  The existing backup unit was too small for the server room and when it worked it could only keep the server room cool for a few hours.  The replacement unit that is being considered is large enough to keep the server room cool for extended periods of time (several days) if needed.

Keeping the server room cool is critical to our network equipment; if the room is too hot for an extended period of time the equipment will fail.  Currently there is an estimated $250,000 worth of equipment in this room.

FINANCIAL IMPACT:

Cost to replace the backup air conditioning unit will not to exceed $11,000.

RECOMMENDED MOTION:

Approve replacement of the backup air conditioning unit in the server room, costs not to exceed $11,000.
